En un pequeño pueblo una panda de niños ocupa sus vacaciones con juegos que despiertan su imaginación y creatividad en compañía de Duarte, un exprofe, pintor y bohemio. El pintor desparece inexplicablemente y para los niños el misterio de su pistarecaesobre Pumariño, un marginado del pueblo al que siguen hasta una casa en las afueras de la pequeña villa. El piso alto de la casa está lleno de cuadros. Pumariño les indica a los niños que Duarte está dentro de una de aquellas pinturas y les invitaaentrar en ella. Los niños deciden adentrarse en ese mundo desconocido en busca de su amigo perdido.

In a small village a gang of children spend their holidays with games which fire their imaginations and creativity along with Duarte, an ex-teacher, painter and bohemian. The painter disappears inexplicably and for the children the key to themysteryofhis whereabouts seems to lie with Pumariño, an outcast in the village. They follow him to a house on the outskirts of the small village. The top floor of the house is full of pictures. Pumariño shows the children that Duarte is inside one of thesepictures and he invites them to enter into it. The children decide to go into this unknown world in search of their lost friend.
