- EXTENDED SYNOPSIS
Mi madre murió días después del comienzo de las conversaciones de paz con la guerrilla de las FARC. Antes de morir, me dijo que había perdonado y que no quería que nadie más viviera su experiencia. Había sido secuestrada durante casi dos años en un rincón de la selva. Mi hermano y yo nunca habíamos hablado de ello antes. Incluso habíamos olvidado el diario que se le había permitido escribir y que llevaba consigo, en el que registraba los peores 603 días de su vida. La lectura del diario nos empuja a un precipicio. Localizamos lugares, desciframos nombres y comenzamos un viaje por selvas y montañas siguiendo el rastro de su dolor, pero también buscando a los guerrilleros que la custodiaban y que ocupan gran parte de ese diario, donde descubrimos que desarrollaron una estrecha relación con ella, casi una especie de madre/hijo. Tal vez esos guerrilleros están ahora desmovilizados, así que nos dispusimos a encontrarlos. Seguir la estela de mamá es seguir el camino del perdón. Nos preguntamos si al final de este viaje también seremos capaces de perdonar.
My mom died days after the beginning of the peace talks with the FARC guerrilla group. Before she died, she told me that she had forgiven and that she didn’t want anyone else to live her experience. She had been kidnapped for almost two years in a corner of the jungle. My brother and I had never talked about it before. We had even forgotten the diary that she had been allowed to write and that she brought with her, in which she recorded the worst 603 days of her life. Reading the diary propels us into a precipice. We locate places, deciphered names and begin a journey through jungles and mountains following the trail of her pain but also looking for the guerrillas who guarded her and that occupy a large part of that diary, where we discovered they developed a close relationship with her, almost a mother/son kind of it. Maybe those guerrillas are now demobilized, so we set out to find them. To follow mom´s wake is to follow the path of forgiveness. We wonder if at the end of this journey we will also be able to forgive.
